I did not realise, that I had not shared my beautiful walk in wardrobe with you all on the blog. If you follow me on facebook and instagram, you will have probably already seen it there, however I thought I would do a full post on how I created this stunning room. Now many walk in wardrobes are full of closet space and storage, but that is not something that fitted our budget or the size of this small room, so I needed the decor to speak for itself, so that having my clothes on display would look okay, and fit the feel of the room.

This room was so dismal and sad. It is a small bedroom, even though it’s classed as a bedroom, it would be a single bed and no furniture! It is the original dressing room of the house, and did once have a door leading into the front bedroom, but this has since been closed up.

I have visited Paris many times, and each time I become more and more obsessed with the aesthetic of the famous Macron store, Laduree. The colours, the elegance, everything about it is perfection. I knew for a while that I wanted my dressing room to be inspired by Laduree.

After stripping the walls, the plan was to have one wall as a feature wall with pink and gold wallpaper, and the other walls to be painted in that signature mint green shade with gold moulding. This is my second time adding moulding to a room, and just like we did in the main bedroom, we drew out the entire plan of the moulding on the walls. I do this as it really helps me to visualise the placement and the sizing of the moulding that will be needed.

We had some B&Q gift cards we’d received as wedding gifts (the perfect gift for a couple renovating a house) and so chose to purchase our moulding from B&Q, we went for one that would be higher on the outside edge, a little how a photo frame would be. We cut and mitred the moulding, and applied grab adhesive to stick it to the wall. I then taped it as well just to add extra support whilst it dried.

Using filler I then filled around the edges and where the piece of wood join, this means you will get a smoother and more professional finish when painting.

I painted the walls with B&Q good homes paint in Limerick. It did take quite a few coats to get a complete coverage, and it was painted over white, so I wouldn’t say it was the best paint, but the colour was perfect for me, and the room is only small. I probably wouldn’t use the range again due to the size of our rooms and high ceilings, I’d end up buying quite a lot of tubs!

On the feature wall I wanted a complimenting colour to go with the green, and it was either going to be lilac or pastel pink, as these are both colours used in the Laduree aesthetic. I settled on this gorgeous floral gold and pink textured wallpaper, it is really giving me Marie Antoinette vibes, which was also a theme I was really wanting to get somewhere in the house. I imported this wallpaper from China, and the quality is amazing, its traditional wallpaper that will need paste applied to the paper first, but it is so beautiful! The link for where I purchased mine doesn’t seem to work any more, however to find this I searched textured damask wallpaper on Aliexpress, and there are many options, you’ll probably be able to find it on amazon and maybe wayfair too

After painting the walls and moulding, I taped off the moulding and using Pentart antique paste in antique gold, I applied it to the moulding. I have used this paste on so many projects, and always make sure I have several in my supplies. The best way to apply this, is to use your finger, make sure the paste is a little softer and warmed up if its been stored in a cold place, then using your finger apply it like a rub onto the moulding, the more you rub it, the more it kind of buffs it and blends it. It dries really quick and doesn’t transfer once dry. A small amount goes a long way, and I did this whole room in less than two pots, which I didn’t even expect it to stretch that far, and I’ve used it a lot! If I accidentally applied it anywhere I didn’t want it, it was easy to just paint over with the green again.

This is only a small room, and we are of course on a budget, so I purchased two large heavy duty white rails to go with the drawers I already had for the room. Not only did these only cost me £35 each, it made a feature of all my dresses, as well as making sure all the beautiful new decor could be seen. They are really good quality, and the perfect size for the room. I also picked up this full length mirror for £15 from a local charity store. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to fit a mirror in here, but the corner was the perfect place as the clothes on the rail in that corner, are coats that I hardly ever wear, and it hid away the bulk that the coats added.

I think this room turned out amazing, I am so happy with how it looks, it is simple but elegant, and has a definite nod to my favourite macaron store. It was a cheap dressing room makeover with a beautiful outcome. Even if we did have the budget for fitted wardrobes in this room, the room is so small I feel like wardrobes would have deprived the room of character. Even when the door is open and I walk onto the landing, it’s lovely to be able to see the detail of the room with my favourite dresses hung at the very front of the dressing rails.

I hope you enjoyed my dressing room makeover, and the beautiful theme. Would you spend the time decorating your dressing room, or is it a room you prefer hidden? And most importantly, have you ever had a Laduree macaron?

Much Love, Natasha x
